Brilliant Stories This Week
My weekly roundup of inspiring stories — 14
I know I am a bit late this week. Did anyone wonder where my weekly reading roundup was? Do you look forward to it? I do!
Over the last four days, I’ve been immersed in activities around my son. He left on 10th September and after a 36-hour-on-the-move journey, reached his destination amid much airport-related chaos and tension. You know — baggage delays, customs delays, immigration delays, and so on.
But as with every tough thing in life, there are also silver linings. I am trying hard to look at the big picture rather than sweat over the little things. I know that a few weeks, or maybe even a few days down the line, I’ll be looking back and these difficulties will start to fade in the distance. Sure, fresh worries will pop up to claim their space, but — let me cross those bridges when I reach them, right?
I’ve spent a couple of literally sleepless nights, thanks to the time difference between India and California and I suspect the strain is taking its toll. Before I sit and doze off with fingers poised over my keyboard as if posing for a portrait, I am determined to present posts I enjoyed this week, grab some dinner, and settle down comfortably, ready to talk to my son at least for a few hours before I can no longer resist my bed.
Let’s go, shall we?
Jill (Conquering Cognitions) stole my heart with a fabulous post about Stephen King’s writing wisdom. I’ve always been a fan of his work and I loved Jill’s post.
Srini’s post is one after my own heart! I was too shy to highlight his entire post but that does not mean I thoroughly enjoyed what he said. By the way, Srini has been busy making my week through his wonderfully uplifting comments and I have a good mind to screenshot them all into a post.
Here’s a lovely exercise from Trista Signe Ainsworth to add more love to your day. Specifically, self-love.
And if you enjoy “critter stories”, here is Katie Michaelson’s delightful roundup of bite-sized posts about our furry friends.
Barb Dalton’s story about her pet sheep is a truly wonderful read.
Ali Hall, in her post, talks about why it is important to let go of inauthentic friendships. She is so very good at tackling these topics.
Thief is right — time waits for no one!
I was excited to see JM Heatherly’s post about a special star from his youth. This star is on my top-five favorite list. Ay-oh!
As I’ve mentioned before, Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) generates writing prompts faster than anyone can write. I have been hoarding her prompts to respond to and here’s one that has gotten me thinking.
While on the topic of writing prompts, are you following Diana C.’s amazing Creative Corner writing prompts twice a week? Do catch up on her other posts as well — I am loving them!
Pene Hodge’s post about one superpower she would like to have resonates with me.
In her post, Sandra Pawula talks about what she wishes she had known in her twenties. Solid life-lessons everyone can learn from this.
Evelyn Lim offers 5 ways to overcome feeling unwanted, depressed and alienated — so that you can gain a sense of true belonging
Zeenat Merchant Syal, M.A, M.Sc has some great suggestions about how to uncomplicate relationships and infuse more love into them. Love is good!
Happy reading!
I wish you a wonderful week ahead!
Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles ❤ Did you smile today?
I love Medium and the wonderful writers I engage with. Sadly, the Medium Partner Program is not open to writers based in India. One of the reasons I write is to support underprivileged children. Would you consider buying me a cup of coffee? Thank you so much!
