What I Enjoyed on Medium This Week

Inspiring reads — 5

I had an interesting week of many epiphanies and self-discoveries.

One of these was related to music. Now, as a child of the 60s, and although my music preferences are quite eclectic, I am very partial to 80s rock. Like anyone else, I too have several favorite artists and playlists.

One of these is Simon and Garfunkel. You must be familiar with one of their greatest hits, “Sound of Silence” released in 1966. I have always found it a soothing song that washed over me as it played in the background. I barely paying attention to the lyrics. Until last week. I mean, really! Almost 35 years of listening to a song and only now being aware of the lyrics? I almost feel guilty!

I am watching The Blacklist on Netflix right now and at the end of one of the episodes, the background score is “Sound of Silence” performed by Disturbed. I always have sub-titles on (don’t judge!) and as the song played to the scenes, I absorbed the lyrics and was overcome with emotion. The song instantly went into my top ten songs that make me cry.

Simon Garfunkel once said that the song is about:

I am glad that I am unlikely to ever experience that, thanks to my wonderful community of people and friends. And the uplifting words that they share with the world on a daily basis.

Just wanted to share that with you before I listed the posts I enjoyed reading this week!

Without further rambling, here we go! I know you will enjoy them as much as I did!

Spyder’s post, an enjoyable read, gives us a glimpse into his gentle self. Loved the photo that went with the post!

JM Heatherly, the herb guru dazzled me with his post about how to air-dry herbs and his herbal collection index. I bookmarked it, of course.

Thanks to one of his comments, I guiltily remembered that my main blog turned 18 and my health blog turned 13 this July!

If you enjoy short form, please bookmark Katie Michaelson’s post at The Daily Cuppa listing regular features you might enjoy.

I enjoyed Mukundarajan V N’s post about reading the ‘CV of Failures’ written by successful people and digging deeper into their stories — rather than reading self-help books.

I agree with Jill (Conquering Cognitions) that Kindness is indeed infectious. Please read her lovely story about the kindness of a stranger.

And to wrap up on a light note, here are some inspiring movie quotes from Zeenat Merchant Syal, M.A, M.Sc

Thanks and a BIG hug to Ali Hall — her post about claps and the “clap guage” made me laugh! I also learned that I could simply press the “clap” button to watch it rise to 50. As you can guess, I actually used to click it 50 times. ’Duh.

Loving gratitude to Ali Hall at Spread the Ripple, Diana C. at Know Thyself Heal Thyself, Jessie London at The Candid Cuppa, Katie Michaelson at The Daily Cuppa, ILLUMINATION and the The Good Men Project’s publication “A Parent is Born” for publishing my stories.

And of course, a huge thank you to everyone who kindly commented on my posts ❤

Have a great week ahead!

Love,

Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles. Did you smile today?
