January Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Self”
Too many books, not enough time!
We love to spend the day at bookstores and this one — Blossom Book Store, Church Street, a major landmark in Bangalore now — is one of our favorites.
Overflowing with books old and new, various genres, across three floors and two bookstores. I remember back in 2001 when the bookstore opened. It was a charming old shop with books stacked tight and piled up everywhere — and a haven for those looking for used books.
Today, it is a booklover’s paradise and a great day out, as we can lose ourselves in those bookshelves and emerge only when our tummies rumble, for a bite at one of the numerous eateries lining the street and then, rush right back to pick up where we started. Oh yes, we’ve been literally pushed out at closing time from the shop, arms laden with books we never intended buying, and shoulders sagging with bags full of books. I have proof of all our visits — my place is so full of books it is crazy!
I grew up in a family of voracious readers. We even had our own library at home — will a whole floor dedicated to bookshelves. We lived as a joint family and everyone had specific duties (age-appropriate) maintaining the library. These included buying, keeping track of which books were “borrowed” and returned via a big fat register, covering or binding some of the books, ensuring the place was cleaned, and so on. I have lovely memories of the large window seats with beautiful views where one could read or just daydream.
