Yesterday when I was returning from the doc I came across a person selling plants on the sidewalk. After admiring them, I asked him for "low maintenance" plants as I am somehow unable to keep plants alive for long. He recommended packing the top of the soil with cocopeat (not sure of the spelling) saying that it will ensure the water is absorbed slowly by the plant.
